The Pixie Motor Inn is a family owned and operated motel just one Block from the Intersection of U.S. 221 & N. C. 105. It is located in Avery County at the base of Pixie Mountain at 4150 Mitchell Avenue in Linville, North Carolina, a small resort town tucked away in the Blue Mountains. The Pixie Motor Inn is said to be “In the shadow of famous Grandfather Mountain,” which is two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway Viaduct. Owned by the Hughes family, the Pixie Motor Inn has 25 modern clean grade A rooms, telephones and cable TV. A Pixie Inn postcard from the 1960s stated the inn was “Air-conditioned by Nature.” They have since installed air conditioning in all the rooms. The Pixie Motor Inn also provides play areas for children, free ice for cooler, convenient access to championship golf courses and local restaurants (The Tartan Restaurant is next door at 1 Hemingway Drive).
Within a short walk of the Pixie Motor Inn one can find the Pixie Beauty Salon at 30 Coffey Road, and across the street from the Pixie Inn, there is a seasonal produce stand named “Pixie Produce.” Rolling up behind the Pixie Motor Inn is Pixie Mountain. The mountain’s summit reaches an elevation of 4,058 feet (1,237 m). The Linville Bypass (NC Hwy 181) goes around Pixie Mountain on its western side. The mountain is adjacent to the Linville River.

Terry and Debbie Perry own and operate Perry’s Berry’s Vineyard & Winery. What started as a way to bring our family closer together has grown into a passion to help others experience the same. Terry spent many summers picking blueberries in the mountains of North Carolina. Debbie’s descends from a farming family. The Perry’s desire for their four grandchildren to experience the joy of picking blueberries grew into a family business. In 2013, with the help of family and friends the Perry’s opened their blueberry farm to the public.

A rocky creek winds through the woods at the base of several hikable peaks hidden just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to explore, on foot or mountain-bike, anywhere within our 170 acres (or the adjoining 250 acres owned by the US Forestry Service off our Western border) and are likely to catch glimpses of turkey, beaver, deer, fox, bobcat, coyote, bear, eastern box turtle and the many species of songbird and raptor. When you’re at Tanglewood you may feel a million miles away from it all but you are conveniently close to some of the Blue Ridge mountains most treasured gems (see some of our favorite local attractions here). From sightseeing, hiking and tubing to shopping, dining, even wine tasting, the following are just a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; drive the Blue Ridge parkway; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines and Little Switzerland. One of those places that stand apart from the ordinary, Mount Mitchell’s dramatic summit is the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet and was inspiration for one of the nation’s first state parks. From its easily accessible observation deck, the spruce-fir forest of Mount Mitchell State Park leads the eye to unmatched views. A museum explains the mountain’s cultural and natural history, and its trail network allows visitors to explore up close, offering short hikes near the summit and challenging treks leading to adjacent wilderness areas. A nine-site tent campground is open in warm-weather months, and backpacking opportunities abound, including entry onto the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail. A concession area and a full-service restaurant serve visitors from May to October.

The setting is spacious and peaceful, and many of our customers come from all over the state and country to see what Marion, NC, is truly about.

The Pixie Motor Inn is a family owned and operated motel just one Block from the Intersection of U.S. 221 & N. C. 105. It is located in Avery County at the base of Pixie Mountain at 4150 Mitchell Avenue in Linville, North Carolina, a small resort town tucked away in the Blue Mountains. The Pixie Motor Inn is said to be “In the shadow of famous Grandfather Mountain,” which is two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway Viaduct. Owned by the Hughes family, the Pixie Motor Inn has 25 modern clean grade A rooms, telephones and cable TV. A Pixie Inn postcard from the 1960s stated the inn was “Air-conditioned by Nature.” They have since installed air conditioning in all the rooms. Boulevard Barbeque was founded in 2019 by Michael Samolinski and Alexander Randall, both of whom originally resided in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Terry and Debbie Perry own and operate Perry’s Berry’s Vineyard & Winery. What started as a way to bring our family closer together has grown into a passion to help others experience the same. Terry spent many summers picking blueberries in the mountains of North Carolina. Debbie’s descends from a farming family. The Perry’s desire for their four grandchildren to experience the joy of picking blueberries grew into a family business. In 2013, with the help of family and friends the Perry’s opened their blueberry farm to the public.

The Perry’s have planted over 3500 blueberry bushes. In addition to offering pick your own blueberries, they supply blueberries to local breweries, grocery stores, bakeries and ice cream shops. There are several bee hives located throughout the farm for pollination of the berries. You will also find Scuppernong and Muscadine grapes, as well as pears, apples, plum and cherry trees on the farm.
Perry’s Berry’s Winery was added in July 2020. We are excited to offer our Blueberry Wine made with 100% blueberries from our farm.
Take Highway 181 North from Morganton toward the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, and turn left at the first campground you spot. Take the gravel road past the nursery to Rose Creek Family Campground.

One of those places that stand apart from the ordinary, Mount Mitchell’s dramatic summit is the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet and was inspiration for one of the nation’s first state parks. From its easily accessible observation deck, the spruce-fir forest of Mount Mitchell State Park leads the eye to unmatched views. A museum explains the mountain’s cultural and natural history, and its trail network allows visitors to explore up close, offering short hikes near the summit and challenging treks leading to adjacent wilderness areas. A nine-site tent campground is open in warm-weather months, and backpacking opportunities abound, including entry onto the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail. A concession area and a full-service restaurant serve visitors from May to October.
Located in Yancey County 30 miles northeast of Asheville, Mount Mitchell State Park was the genesis of North Carolina’s state parks system. At 6,684 feet, the mountain is the highest point east of the Mississippi River, and an observation deck provides breathtaking mountain views on a clear day. Easy trails at the summit explore the Fraser fir forest, while a vast network of challenging trails — including the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail — extend into adjacent wilderness areas and lead to backpacking opportunities within Pisgah National Forest.
