Linville Falls Campground, RV Park & Log Cabin Rentals located in Western North Carolina, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at junction of US 221, is shaded by a cool forest of stately oaks. This privately owned campground has full hook-up sites, water/electric sites and a secluded, primitive tent area. The Pixie Motor Inn is a family owned and operated motel just one Block from the Intersection of U.S. 221 & N. C. 105. It is located in Avery County at the base of Pixie Mountain at 4150 Mitchell Avenue in Linville, North Carolina, a small resort town tucked away in the Blue Mountains. The Pixie Motor Inn is said to be “In the shadow of famous Grandfather Mountain,” which is two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway Viaduct. Owned by the Hughes family, the Pixie Motor Inn has 25 modern clean grade A rooms, telephones and cable TV. A Pixie Inn postcard from the 1960s stated the inn was “Air-conditioned by Nature.” They have since installed air conditioning in all the rooms. The Pixie Motor Inn also provides play areas for children, free ice for cooler, convenient access to championship golf courses and local restaurants (The Tartan Restaurant is next door at 1 Hemingway Drive).
Within a short walk of the Pixie Motor Inn one can find the Pixie Beauty Salon at 30 Coffey Road, and across the street from the Pixie Inn, there is a seasonal produce stand named “Pixie Produce.” Rolling up behind the Pixie Motor Inn is Pixie Mountain. The mountain’s summit reaches an elevation of 4,058 feet (1,237 m). The Linville Bypass (NC Hwy 181) goes around Pixie Mountain on its western side. The mountain is adjacent to the Linville River.

While all locations of Crossnore Communities for Children could be called Miracle Grounds, the particular building that is home to the Coffee Shop has occupied a colorful place in the history of the town of Crossnore, NC.
Historians believe the building was built sometime in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest commercial buildings in Crossnore. The Coffee Shop building is constructed of stone from the Linville River, just as many of the town’s historic buildings are, including Crossnore Weavers and Fine Arts Gallery, E.H. Sloop Chapel, and Crossnore Presbyterian Church.
Crossnore Communities for Children acquired Miracle Grounds in February 2006. Phillip and Chantae Johnson and Mark and Gina Johnson Aldridge owned the building until 2006. It had been in the Johnson family for as long as anyone can remember. Crossnore Communities for Children thanks the Johnson family for their longtime support!

A steep, 0.8-mile trail leads to this cascading waterfall. The trail is open only to hikers. Upper Creek Falls is located in the Jonas Ridge Area of Burke County. Trails leading to the top and bottom of the falls are popular among sunbathers, swimmers, and fishermen, so plan on having company unless you arrive earlier.

The Skyline Village Inn has been a landmark adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 70 years. In 1938 John Greer bought the land next to the Parkway and started making moonshine in a cavern just off the road on what is now NC 226 Alt. The US Government had begun construction of the Parkway only 3 years prior and had plans to construct a bridge over NC 26 (now 226A). John made plans to construct a gas station and store alongside the Parkway. He funded these plans with the money he made selling moonshine.

For my motorcycle rides we will go with the local name aka Georgia Dragon as I have another great ride called the SuchesLoop.com. Seasoned Motorcycle riders will find the road challenging due to the elevation changes. Take this ride a bit slower to enjoy the spectacular scenery. TheGeorgiaDragon.com motorcycle ride starts in the town of Dahlonega (First major US town gold rush back in 1828) and runs north on Route 60, then merging with US-19 and then turn right on to Route 180 called Wolfpen Gap Road steep elevation changes and switchbacks. The ride continues through the mountains to US Highway 129/19. Then make a right and head south back to Dahlonega to complete the Georgia Dragon!

When you’re at Tanglewood you may feel a million miles away from it all but you are conveniently close to some of the Blue Ridge mountains most treasured gems (see some of our favorite local attractions here). From sightseeing, hiking and tubing to shopping, dining, even wine tasting, the following are just a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; drive the Blue Ridge parkway; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines and Little Switzerland. The scenic drives to Asheville, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk make them each wonderful day-trip destinations as well.
