The Skyline Village Inn has been a landmark adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 70 years. In 1938 John Greer bought the land next to the Parkway and started making moonshine in a cavern just off the road on what is now NC 226 Alt. The US Government had begun construction of the Parkway only 3 years prior and had plans to construct a bridge over NC 26 (now 226A). John made plans to construct a gas station and store alongside the Parkway. He funded these plans with the money he made selling moonshine.

Because we love feeding our growing community, that means we needed a little more elbow space and we made the big decision to move our location to the old Fatz Café right across the street! We’ve dug in deep to clean, remodel, redecorate, and hire (yay for creating jobs!) in order to serve you better with an exciting new menu that includes the same high-quality foods you’ve grown to love! We’re adding steaks, seafood, pasta, and more with a full-service restaurant and bar, as well as lots of fun artwork that reflects what we love most about our community and state.

Expanding means we had to order lots of new equipment, and unfortunately this pandemic caused unexpected delays in delivery. If we’ve learned anything through this, it’s to adjust, adapt, and come up with an alternate plan!

Beginning Tuesday August 25^th, J. Hartman’s Restaurant will open under the same concept as Holly’s Deli with the same menu, but at our new location. Initially our hours will be: Monday – Saturday 10:30am-4:00pm. The best part is we have much more space for customers to stay healthy and socially distance, while still enjoying a yummy lunch menu! Cross Creek Cabins offers five cozy, fully-furnished Log Cabins located in scenic Linville Falls –– a unique destination, home of the well-known “Waterfalls” and the mysterious “Brown Mountain Lights.” We are located on Highway 183, one mile east of US Hwy 221 in Linville Falls.

No doubt about it camp can be fun. Paddling through a rapid on the Tuckasegee can be incredibly exciting. However, camp can also be pretty challenging. In order to get to that fun rapid you have to work with a partner to maneuver your boat around rocks, shoals, and other hazards. Often it’s hot and thunderstorms roll in. Sometimes you get pinned on a rock. Sometimes you flip. But if you persevere the rewards are great and you will become stronger. From the beginning Camp Grier has been about accepting the challenge and persevering through the many obstacles that undoubtedly come our way. The mountains will teach us and those lessons will remain with us throughout our lives.
